Britney had stunning looks, bags of talent, a multi-million dollar fortune and worldwide fame. But away from the cameras she was a nervous wreck and had been prescribed Prozac (used for depression and panic attacks) at the age of 18.

During the European leg of her Oops! I Did It Again tour in the winter of 2000, she began having "massive anxieties" in the middle of the night. A source close to her says: "She had trouble sleeping and crying fits. She was restless and agitated. Nights were the only times she was alone and she struggled with that… When nothing was happening, it drove her crazy. Only exhaustion would knock her out." Such anxiety was not drug-induced. This was Britney's natural state, but heightened by fame. Her moods started to swing noticeably, high and happy one minute, sad and brooding the next. She just dismissed it as "silly ole me!"

Such was the level of concern that Britney was prescribed Prozac but she treated it like headache tablets, taking a pill only on the days she awoke depressed. This seemed to make her more manic. As early as 2000 the writing was on the wall. Inevitably, something would give.

Britney Stage Jumper Faces Criminal Charges

A Florida man is now facing a criminal charge after jumping on stage during Britney Spears' Circus concert Sunday at the Mohegan Sun Casino. The man jumped on stage and started dancing near Britney before being turned away by Britney's backup dancers. Take a look:

Britney Spears Seeks Restraining Order Against Lutfi and Ghalib

TMZ reports that Britney Spears conservator have obtained restraining orders against Sam Lutfi and Adnan Ghalib. Britney told her conservators that she is afraid of the two men.

A source close to the conservatorship tells TMZ Britney asked her conservators to "protect her from Sam and Adnan." We've also learned Britney told her conservators she was afraid of them both and hoped they could be locked up in jail.

A source tells TMZ the conservators believe Lutfi and Ghalib conspired to try and undermine Britney's conservatorship in a way that would have been extremely harmful to her. We're also told attorney Jon Eardley -- the dude Lutfi used early last year to mount a bizarre, baseless attack on the conservatorship -- was allegedly also in on the conspiracy and the TRO is against him as well.

Adnan Ghalib was Britney's paparazzi pal during a time period when Britney's behavior was odd. Now that she is seeing things more clearly Britney doesn't want anything to do with him.

Taylor Swift and the Case of the Missing Britney Spears Poster

Rising country music star Taylor Swift blogged that she panicked when she returned and found her Britney Spears poster missing. Apparently, Taylor's mother had moved the poster from the bathroom to Taylor's bedroom while she was in Los Angeles. But all is well because Taylor likes having the Britney poster in her bedroom.

There are little windows in one of the dressers, and through it, I can see the candles I used to have stashed randomly on the counter. Now they have their perfect little home, all gathered together in their tiny, organized sanctuary. But then I turned around and was startled by something... Where was my Britney Spears poster.... No, this can't be right... WHERE is it?!? I searched the room frantically for a few seconds before finding it's new spot. My Britney Spears poster (from 6th grade) had been relocated to my bedroom, which is another AMAZING upgrade. This way, I see it more often and it more proudly displays my unwavering devotion to Britney Spears.

Britney Spears and Ellen DeGeneres Go Caroling



US Magazine reports that Britney Spears and Ellen DeGeneres went caroling last Friday in old-fashioned dresses. They look adorable.

The singer - who just turned 27 last week - and the talk show host hit the street in old-fashioned dresses to sing a few Christmas Carols.

Spears donned a festive red crushed velvet hoop gown, tartan shawl and bonnet for the outing, while DeGeneres chose a mistletoe-topped bonnet and green crushed velvet outfit. Both wore white gloves and big smiles.

The caroling episode will air on December 16th.

Britney Spears Performs at the Bambi Awards

Britney Spears is working so hard on her comeback, and it really shows. Britney performed her new hit "Womanizer" at the Bambi Awards in Germany. Britney was given the award for Best International Popstar, which was presented by designer Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld told her: "I admire you, not only for your art but also for your energy, for your comeback not only as a phoenix but as a bird of paradise. And it's great."

Britney then performed the same song (in a different outfit with slightly different staging) at Star Academy in France (that's the French version of American Idol). Here's the video of her performance at the Bambi Awards:

Britney Tapes VMA Promo Video

People reports that Britney Spears has taped a video promo for MTV's upcoming VMA awards. The video includes Pete Wentz, LL Cool J and a 9,000 pound elephant. A source tells People that Britney "looked really good."

"Britney looked really good," says a source. "It was improvisational questions and answers with [host] Russell Brand just like [other promo guest stars] LL Cool J and Pete Wentz did. Russell joked about there being sexual tension, and Britney shot back, 'I don't feel the tension'. The other joke was about no one knowing who Russell was so she called him by the wrong name. LL called him Russell Bland and Britney called him Russell Brown."

The shoot also included a 9,000 pound elephant. Says the source, "The joke of the whole thing is 'there is an elephant in the room'."

Britney has not been confirmed to appear in the 2008 VMAs but the video promo may be a sign that she will. Hopefully, if she does appear live on this year's show it will go much better than it did last year.

Britney's Dad to Remain Conservator

A court has ruled that Britney Spears' father, James Spears, will remain her conservator through the end of the year.

Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz will continue Jamie Spears' conservatorship over his famous daughter through for the rest of they year. "Regarding the conservatorship of the person, I understand that Ms. Spears is reluctantly agreeing to extend those letters," Goetz said. "We are extending them until Dec. 31, 2008." A status hearing for the extended order has been set for Oct. 28.

"All orders remain in effect," Goetz said, before delivering some good news for the apparently reluctant songbird. "The order is without prejudice and is subject to early termination."

That means if Britney continues to show signs of improvement in her life and demonstrates an ability to manage her own affairs, the conservatorship may be ended sooner. But somehow we're not so sure that Britney is ready to take control of her own finances again. Not yet, anyway.

Britney to Appear During Madonna Concert

Britney Spears was set to begin filming a video montage which will appear at some point during Madonna's concert tour, but the shoot was delayed a day because of glitch on set.

Spears had been scheduled to begin shooting a video montage for Madonna's upcoming tour this morning at the Lots soundstage in Hollywood. But production insiders say that because the set was not finished in time, cameras will not roll until tomorrow.

The set features an elevator, in, around and on which Spears will dance. "The video will be very deep," a source in the Spears camp tells E! News. "You've never seen Britney like this before. It will blow your mind."

Madonna reached out to Britney to do the project, says the source. The Material One's publicist, Liz Rosenberg, would only say that "there is footage being shot of Britney some time this week in conjunction with Madonna's upcoming tour" and that the segment was not a music video. "That is all the information I have available," the rep added. "The rest is a secret."

It was really quite nice of Madonna to reach out to Britney and give her a video spot on her tour. We hope it goes well for Britney.
