Popular Britney Fan Site to Shut Down

CBS News Showbuzz reports that the WorldofBritney.com is being closed. World of Britney or WoB is a popular Britney Spears fan site that has been online since 2000. The site's owner Ruben Garay says Britney is losing her identity and credibility.

"As Britney keeps losing her identity and credibility within fans and industry people, so is WoB. We're moving on to greater, bigger things," Ruben Garay, the Webmaster and founder of the site said in the release. "I would therefore like to announce the permanent shut down of World of Britney.com beginning January 31st, 2007."

As LittleJudy.com points out Garay's decision to shutter WoB is also partly a publicity move to expand into broader celebrity coverage with the launch of a new site. However, there are at least some disillusioned Britney fans -- a new poll found that nearly 3 in 10 adults think Britney Spears was the worst celebrity of 2006.
